Athletics

Volleyball is coming! We are supposed to begin tryouts starting the 19th (pending COVID restrictions). We will have a signup process for the tryouts and will be communicating that soon.

If you are an 8th grader who played athletics for us last year, your physical is on file, and all you need to do is the concussion course to tryout.

All other potential players must get a sports physical and take the concussion course to try out. Check below for the links to both required documents.

Milagro Middle School (In a COVID-less world) hosts several different athletics throughout the year! See below for what sports are offered here at Milagro Middle School! Due to COVID-19, some athletics are impacted. We envision volleyball possibly starting in October. Truth be told, we just do not know. Football has been pushed to April.

Fall
Football (Girls and Boys)
Volleyball (Girls) (2 teams - one 7th Grade, one 8th Grade)

Winter
Wrestling
Basketball (Girls and Boys) (4 teams - a 7th Boys, a 7th Girls, an 8th Boys, and an 8th Girls)

Spring
Track (Girls and Boys) (2 Teams - one Boys, one Girls)

Sports that are not offered at Milagro can be played at the high school level for 8th graders only (sorry 7th graders!), and at the high school they are zoned to play in. Similarly, students attending a different school that does not offer a sport, but are zoned for attendance at Milagro may participate in that sport at Milagro.

Grades

NMAA rules state that students MUST have at least a 2.0 GPA and No F's on their previous quarter's grades. 7th graders get a pass for beginning Fall sports, but if they fall out of compliance at ANY point in the first quarter, they will be benched until they are in compliance with their grades.

8th Graders - Your fourth quarter grades from your 7th grade year determine your eligibility to participate/try out for any sport in the Fall.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Justin Hunter, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director (505-467-3303 or jhunter@sfps.k12.nm.us)

Below is a PDF document that can be downloaded and printed for SFPS Sports physicals. Athletes MUST have that paperwork in line prior to participation in ANY athletic in SFPS.

Finally, the NMAA requires the Concussion Course for students be completed. It is free. It can be confusing -- ensure you choose the course for students. Any other course will not be sufficient. A certificate populates at the end of the course -- Get a screenshot or picture of that certificate and be prepared to send that to Coach Romero (For volleyball).

The link for the concussion course can be found here.
